About The Rune Series
In his Rune Series, George Miller has captured the spirit of the ancient northern runes in a tapestry of beauty, majesty and mystery. The beauty and majesty are evident upon viewing his runic art; the mystery comes from the 'whispered' secrets of height consciousness that he has called froth from the invisible runic energy streams with his creative intensity.
The word rune comes to us from ancient days, It is found, in one form or another, in Old German, Old English, Old Norse, Old Irish, Finnish, Scottish-Gaelic and Welsh. In all these languages throughout all times, rune has meant 'mystery' or 'secret.' The secrets presented by the word 'rune' encompasses the secret deliberations of humans on the physical plane as well as the Mysteries of Life that have perplexed humankind since creation. Mythically, Odin 'discovered' the runes as he hung upon the World Tree Yggdrasil in a rite of spiritual initiation, and passed them on to humankind through runic tradition.
Be definition, the runes are a set of 24 angular symbols, historically aged at 2,500 years, making up what is commonly called the 'Enchanted Alphabet of the North.' The runes are an ancient heritage of northern European lands generally north of the Alps and extending into eastern Russia, westward to Scandinavia, Britain, Ireland and thence to Iceland. In pre-Christian times, this the home of Northern spiritual tradition, still a world class tradition in its own right, complete with its own cosmology and distinct from the Asian, Middle Eastern, Egyptian and Greco-Roman traditions.
Through the mists of time to present day, symbols have been used to help human beings comprehend abstract qualities of the Creative Life Force. So it is with these runic symbols, having been impregnated with mental energies from thousands of years of contemplation by adherents to the tradition, as well as from the energies of the Inner World reaching out to the aspirant through the magic of mind.
There is a truism found I runic thinking which George Miller demonstrates with his art. That is, whether or not the archetypal imagery of the ancient Northern myths and near-mythic sagas is fully comprehendible to modern thinkers, the Cosmic energies behind the runes which they represent are real, active and virile. It is these energies that George Miller has reached with his artistic soul and translated from the realms of the invisible to the visible in Midgard (Earth) for us to enjoy.
It is the actual spirit of the runes impregnated within George's art that you will view on the following pages and hopefully experience within your home. It is this that makes his Rune Series a magnificent spiritual work.
